Surrender unto His Lotus Feet - Part 12

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering, "Surrender unto His Lotus Feet" wherein we were meditating on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 2.6.7 and about elephant king Gajendra surrendering to Lord's lotus feet when being attacked by crocodile in the lake. In the last offering we saw the verse 8.3.6 wherein Gajendra says that the activities and glories of the Supreme artist Krishna cannot be understood or glorified by us and that Lord reveals Himself        .

Now we shall see next prayer.

In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 8.3.7 Gajendra prays

didṛkṣavo yasya padaṁ sumaṅgalaṁ
vimukta-saṅgā munayaḥ susādhavaḥ
caranty aloka-vratam avraṇaṁ vane
bhūtātma-bhūtāḥ suhṛdaḥ sa me gatiḥ

Renunciants and great sages who see all living beings equally, who are friendly to everyone and who flawlessly practice in the forest the vows of brahmacarya, vānaprastha and sannyāsa desire to see the all-auspicious lotus feet of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. May that same Supreme Personality of Godhead be my destination.

In this verse Gajendra glorifies the Lord's lotus feet as padaṁ sumaṅgalaṁ - all auspicious Lotus Feet. His lotus feet are all auspicious because simply by remembrance of His lotus feet, one will be able to free himself of all material contamination and become eligible to go to the spiritual world. Gajendra is also glorifying the qualities of great saints who are always eager to see Lord's lotus feet.

a. vimukta-saṅgā -  persons who are completely disinfected of material conditions;

b susādhavaḥ - those who are highly elevated in spiritual consciousness

c. caranty aloka-vratam avraṇaṁ vane - practice; vows of brahmacarya, vānaprastha or sannyāsa; without any fault;  in the forest

d. bhūtātma-bhūtāḥ - those who are equal to all living entities

e. suhṛdaḥ - those who are friends to everyone;

In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.8.36 Kunti Maharani also glorifies Lord's lotus Feet and the qualities of such sa

śṛṇvanti gāyanti gṛṇanty abhīkṣṇaśaḥ
smaranti nandanti tavehitaṁ janāḥ
ta eva paśyanty acireṇa tāvakaṁ
bhava-pravāhoparamaṁ padāmbujam

O Kṛṣṇa, those who continuously hear, chant and repeat Your transcendental activities, or take pleasure in others’ doing so, certainly see Your lotus feet, which alone can stop the repetition of birth and death.

If one's desire is to see the Supreme Lord, then they will no longer get entangled or interested in petty fights or misunderstanding. Their only focus is to do those things that would pleae Supreme Lord. So they are friendly to all and treat everyone equally.

His Divine Grace very nicely mentions in the purport to verse 8.3.7 - One must take shelter of such a devotee in order to see the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Krishna willing we shall meditate further on this topic in the subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
