Do not Make Mockery of your Devotional Service - Part 2

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

This is in continuation of the translation of a wonderful Hindi Bhagavatam class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Surat on 17th September 1998, on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 9.4.41. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj, that one's speech reveals his nature and the best way to purify speech is to use in recitation of scriptures.

Now we shall hear further.

Maharaj: Srila Prabhupada has done so much. He digested the whole Bhagavatam and whole Bhagavad-Gita and all Vedic literature. That's why he could write thousands and thousands of purports and they are very nice. In these purports, we cannot reduce even a single word or add even a single word. How could he do this? And he was grhastha, so many years, he was a businessman. From where did His Divine Grace assimilate all these things? And this is a life-time service. To be grhastha is not bad. But too much attachment of grhastha, is very bad. Krishna was also a very big grahasta. We are just having one wife. Krishna has 16000. He is such a big grhastha and seeing Him, we take sannyas. That is real grhasta. Ambarish Maharaj was such a great emperor. He was ruling the whole planet and he was a grhasta also. And how many things he has done! This is the point to be understood that we are already in this atmosphere. As I told you earlier, when we are are already in this atmosphere, these (scriptural topics) should come from our mouths. If we are studying the scriptures, then these things only will come out of our mouth.

Whatever we think in our minds, same things will come out of our mouth. So thoughts results in words. So it works like this. First there is enlightenment in our heart. Do you understand the word “sphuran”? (enlightenment - ignition) Knowledge is enlightened in the hearts, no one is speaking. Lord also bestowed knowledge to Brahmaji - heart to heart. He did not have to take a slate and sit, nor did he need to go to a big high school or get B.A. or M.A or any teacher. Knowledge came from the heart. The medium of giving knowledge in the heart, belongs to the Supreme Lord. When it is heart-to-heart, then there is no need of speaking. This is like that.

If you go to Prabhupada and sit with him, then you will be enlightened in your heart. This is not a mental knowledge - the knowledge related to mind. It is a science. And what is not there? You know computer is there. All these are mental knowledge. In all these mental knowledge, there is speculation. And then we become very proud that, "I am a LLB, I am B.Com, I am a chartered accountant. I am a doctor."  And this thought, intoxicates you. Lord has used three words for this. mattam - this is the first word. mattam means fool. Ordinary fools are known as mattam. Then second one is pramattam, - one who is intoxicated that, “I have such a nice wife, such wonderful children, such a big bungalow, I have a big business.” This is intoxication, and this intoxication comes. A person who owns nothing, he has to drink liquor, to get intoxicated. And he becomes addicted to liquor. And a person who is intoxicated - who is pramatta, his words make no sense. Because he keeps praising himself. “I did this, I did that today.”

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the suibsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev
