Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.
This is in continuation of the translation of a wonderful Hindi Bhagavatam class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Surat on 17th September 1998, on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 9.4.41. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj, that penance is required in life and the greatest penance today is to chant 16 rounds properly.
Now we shall hear further from Maharaj.
Maharaj: ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś - We are clear with this line now. The saintly king drank some water. See how, how easy it is? The next line - cintayan. Now he started to think. manasā - began to think in his mind. How easy it is? Please see, cintayan manasācyutam. (Devotees repeat after Maharaj) he began to meditate on Krishna within his mind. He drank the water. So that work was over. Fast was broken. And then cintayan manasācyutam. This we have to learn from him that we do the service, but then, manasācyutam cintayan - cinta - always thinking should be on Krishna. cintayan means “thinking”, “meditating upon” manasā - "by the mind" Achyutam” - "The Supreme Personality of Godhead”. This line is more easier than the first line. Now we have understood these two lines. Please repeat. ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś
(Commenting about a devotee Maharaj says) Thief. He is a thief. Why you people are sitting with thief? He keeps seeing here. He keeps seeing there. I thought he got it by-heart. ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś cintayan manasācyutam - How easy it is? Is it very difficult? Is there any difficulty? Eating kichdi is difficult. But this is more easy than that. Because eating is not our constitutional position. Because we have to bite it, we have to cook the food. Someone has to cook the food and then it comes in front of us. Then we eat and then we have to wash the vessels. The vessel in which we cooked the kichdi also has to be washed by someone. So it is a difficult job. But there is no difficulty here. ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś cintayan manasācyutam (Devotees repeat after Maharaj) Now we have got this idea in these two lines that the saintly king drank water. Using very less words, ocean of knowledge is squeezed. So much knowledge is filled in this line. ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś cintayan manasācyutam (Devotees repeat after Maharaj). Now what we have to learn from this? Whatever work we do, be it eating or drinking, washing clothes, taking bath or whatever service we do, then cintayan manasācyutam. We should remember these three words always. We should never forget this. Please repeat. (Maharaj makes everyone tell the verse by-heart and appreciates those who tell the verse correctly) That's right, very good (Joking with devotee who is in pant shirt and told correctly) One who is in pant-shirt, he is reciting. Why is it not coming for one who is in dhoti? Tell.
And we must remember these three words - cintayan manasācyutam. Whatever we do - cintayan manasācyutam. Repeat - cintayan manasācyutam. cintayan means thinking. manasā - within the mind. Acyutam - Krishna. Always remember Krishna. Always meditate on Krishna. We meditate on so many things. We meditate on money. Some people meditate on women. Some meditate on their business. Some meditate on house. Some meditate on something else. But Bhagavatam tells us - cintayan manasācyutam. Now these two lines have become clear. This is how we should study continuously and there is no difficulty in this. Only one thing is that you must have some time and peaceful mind. With peaceful mind, spend some time on this. This is your capital. What do you say for “Capital” in Hindi? (Devotee says ‘punji’) Yes. This is our punji. And if there is capital, then there is business. Without capital, how can there be business? You must have capital. You have changed to “Hare Krishna” (devotee) clothes. So looking at you people think, “he is a saintly person, he will know everything.” But as soon as the (bad) sentences come out of the mouth, people will run away. It should not be like that. Please remember that whatever yo do,"cintayan manasācyutam" - If you say one word, one line - then people will know, “Arey, he knows so many things.” "May be you remember only these three words. But what comes, please tell that only. “My dear brother, you please do this - cintayan manasācyutam - Whatever you do, Lord has told this - cintayan manasācyutam - Within our mind, we must always think about Krishna.” This is a great learning. Great learning for all people. And when people hear Bhagavatam, then they become very happy because this is non-different from Krishna. Bhagavatam is non-different from Krishna. So you are giving Krishna to others. And this is a very pious deed. And you will give, when you give. First you take and you become blissful. And where Krishna is, complete knowledge and complete bliss is there. This is Krishna’s nature.
Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the suibsequent offering.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev
