Do not Make Mockery of your Devotional Service - Part 12

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

This is in continuation of the translation of a wonderful Hindi Bhagavatam class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Surat on 17th September 1998, on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 9.4.41. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj, that when people hear Bhagavatam, then they become very happy because this is non-different from Krishna. Bhagavatam is non-different from Krishna. So you are giving Krishna to others. And this is a very pious deed.

Now we shall hear further from Maharaj.

Maharaj: Srila Prabhupada used to give this example that if fire is there, then there must be heat and light. Heat and light cannot be separated from fire. Likewise where there is soul, there is jnān - knowledge and ānand - bliss. Bliss is the translation for the word ānand. Remember the word bliss for ānand. Knowledge is a must and blissful - happily you be blissful. These two things are with our soul and we cannot separate it from our soul. So Bhagavatam tells that you need knowledge and you must be blissful in your life. Don’t sit with a rotten banana face. Always have a water-melon face. (referring to a devotee) Look at him. He is like water-melon. When he laughs, it is like water-melon laughing. What is the reason for ‘prasannatha’? What is the reason for cheerful nature? Why he is cheerful? The root, root cause of prasannatha or cheerfulness is - cintayan manasācyutam. This is the root cause. So this is what we learn from this line. Then we move on to third line. pratyacaṣṭa kuru-śreṣṭha  Repeat. pratyacaṣṭa - began to wait. He began to wait. He drank water. The saintly king drank water. ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś cintayan manasācyutam - he began to meditate on Lord. And then he began to wait for the guests who had gone to take bath.

See, how nice it is. In one word, pratyacaṣṭa - we got the third line. "And who was waiting? Kuru-śreṣṭha - Who is being referred here as kuru-śreṣṭha? “Oh best of the Kuru king” - Sukadev Goswami was narrating Bhagavatam to Maharaj Parikshit. And here Parikshit Maharaj is being referred as kuru-śreṣṭha. He was best of Kurus and what was best about him? Because his another name was Vishnurat. When he was in the womb of his mother Uttara, then Ashvattama, son of Dronacarya had released a fiery weapon on him - nuclear weapon. The nuclear weapons that are present now is not as advanced like what Pandavas had used. In those days, nuclear weapons will kill only those persons to whom they are directed. Not everyone. Now the person who released the nuclear weapon also gets killed. So he does not even release. Because if there is nuclear war, if I release nuclear weapon to kill someone, then I will also die. So now they thought, “Leave it. let him live and let me also live.”  As a result such wars are not happening now.

And one more thing that has happened in the last thirty years in this world is that, so many crores of Prabhupada’s literatures has been distributed in this world. This is a great armour against war. Because some percentage of people who are not after wealth, who are not after their nation, who are not after land, who are not after anything, they have understood that all this is like mela for two days and everything will go. Because they have realised this, wars don’t happen. There might be some small fights here and there, But nothing more than that. This is Prabhupada’s effect. Srila Prabhupada, knowingly or unknowingly - Krishna has made Prabhupada do this great service. Please let there be no quarrels in our life, no quarrels in our life. Quarrel means Kali. Whatever spiritual potency you had received in 25 years will vanish in just 2 days of fight. It is so bad. Please never let Kali enter your life.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the suibsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev
