Do not Make Mockery of your Devotional Service - Part 14

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

This is in continuation of the translation of a wonderful Hindi Bhagavatam class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Surat on 17th September 1998, on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 9.4.41. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj, that we should write down a verse and keep looking at it few times during the day and meditate on it. This is cintayan manasācyutam. When we don't do this, everything else is incomplete.

Now we shall hear further from Maharaj.

Maharaj: moghāśā mogha-karmāṇo mogha-jñānā vicetasaḥ  moghāśā - All your hopes will be baffled; mogha-karmāṇo - All your activities will be baffled; mogha-jñānā - All your knowledge will be baffled; and vicetasaḥ - you wiĺ be completely go insane. Because everything is baffling. It makes us helpless. He opens the shops, but it is not running. He starts a factory, but machines are under repair. He doesn't get labour.” He goes home and then wife troubles. No kichadi. “Where should I look and what should I do?” Saying this he comes and stands on the banks of Tapi river. When he standing on the bank of river Tapi, you go and ask, “What is remaining with you?” He says, “I have 14000Rs” “Ok. Then become a life-member.” Then leave. Whatever he has, this one squeezes it out and becomes happy and that other persons becomes like a Kaki Baba and sits there. (laughter) This is a bad thing. Please don’t do this.

cintayan manasācyutam and pratyacaṣṭa kuru-śreṣṭha. Then see we did kuru-śreṣṭha. dvijāgamanam - āgamanam - aane ki gaman. gaman means to go. The English word “go” has come from, “gaman” Who is doing āgamanam? Our Durvasa!  dvija - brahman  He was waiting for the return of the brahman. After dvijāgamanam what is there? eva saḥ - You know āgamanam - return of Durvasa Muni, great mystic Brahman; eva - indeed and saḥ - The king Ambrish Maharaja; This is dvijāgamanam eva saḥ. See this is fourth line. What was he doing? For whom was he waiting? dvija. The mystic brahman and āgamanam - return. He was waiting for his return and eva - definitely, certainly. And saḥ means king. Tell. dvijāgamanam eva saḥ. Now we have got the full verse. ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś - cintayan manasācyutam - You have to sing. Do you understand now?  (Devotees repeat the verse.) pratyacaṣṭa kuru-śreṣṭha dvijāgamanam eva saḥ (Maharaj sings the verse lovingly and asks devotees to vibrate) This is known as vibrate in English. This is the way. Then we will be able to remember it nicely. If you sing the verses, you will remember it nicely.

ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś  cintayan manasācyutam
pratyacaṣṭa kuru-śreṣṭha  dvijāgamanam eva saḥ

This is very simple. (Maharaj encourages everyone to recite by-heart and appreciates) You got it right ? Very good. Sing. acaṣṭam  and not tam. Please tell. Who else will tell. Now you got this little bit in your mind. So you write it down and all day you keep looking at it. Then you will understand the meaning. This is the knowledge we have received from this verse. And everything is with you. Now we move on to the translation. This is the way. This is how you should study. Please repeat the translation.”O best of the Kuru dynasty,” The meaning of kuru-śreṣṭha is - O best of the Kuru dynasty. Please see. He (Parikshit) was the best in Kuru dynasty. We also belong to a dynasty. And we have to behave in such a way that we have to be the best of the dynasty and how to be best of the dynasty? Day and night we should do cintayan manasācyutam. This Ambarish Maharaj was also such a nice Vaishnava that his topic has been included in Srimad Bhagavatam. Otherwise they don’t include any ordinary person in Bhagavatam. He is so great and thats why his story has been included in Srimad Bhagavatam. So we have to learn from these people that our platform, platform must rise very high. Now we are on the material platform. From this material platform, we have to rise very high to the transcendental platform. And if this platform of ours rises, there is nothing like that. Then after that yaṁ prāpya na nivartante (BG 8.21) - After attaining the Supreme abode, no one returns. This is the thing.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the suibsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev
