Do not Make Mockery of your Devotional Service - Part 15

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

This is in conclusion of the translation of a wonderful Hindi Bhagavatam class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj in Surat on 17th September 1998, on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 9.4.41. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj, that by doing cintayan manasācyutam - always remembering Krishna - we can raise ourselves from material platform to the spiritual platform.

Now we shall hear further from Maharaj.

Maharaj: Please see. If we get this much, then there is nothing more to be got. And our services are going on. Today we are here. Tomorrow else where. Service is there in the whole world. And if there is no service anywhere, then you just sit and keep meditating on these topics. In Dwaraka even now the situation is that, you go and if you have kartals, then you keep chanting Hare Krishna mantra, keep doing kirtans and wherever you sit, that place becomes yours. Someone will come and build the compound for you. Someone will make puris. Someone will come and leave rice. Even now it is easy in Dwaraka. You sit anywhere. No one will ask you “why you sat on this ground? This belongs to me.” No. “ok..He is chanting Krishna’s names. So let him take. This is the thing. Srila Prabhupada has given such a easy way that you do Namahatta program anywhere and it is self-generating. People will see that these people are inviting in the name of Lord and 2-4 people will gather and will think, “Come on, lets chant Lord’s names together.” Some might come and help you in doing prasadam. Some might give money. This is all self generating. No one has to make any effort for this. And even after this, if you don’t get help there, then you move out saying, "we are chanting Krishna’s name and doing programs. We spend 100Rs on these programs." Then people will contribute 10 Rs each and give you. This is the thing. Even now some people are bit religious in India. And in Gujarat, particularly in Surat, please take advantage of the people’s generosity and improve ourselves. And the people whose benefits we are taking and improving ourselves, please help them also to improve. This is the way. Do you have to ask anything? We can tell more. We should stop here. Do you want to comment?

Devotee: Maharaj how to calculate this ank and chand?

Maharaj: Please see, you take any shlok

sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo
mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

So take the first line sarva-dharmān parityajya  sarva-dharmān  pa ri tya jya  How many are there? There are 8 letters in this line. If you take the second line also it will become 16. If we take 4 lines, it will become 32. This is the simple way to calculate this.

yā niśā sarva-bhūtānāṁ
tasyāṁ jāgarti saṁyamī
yasyāṁ jāgrati bhūtāni
sā niśā paśyato muneḥ

This is simple. And please see this - ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś  - This pratyacaṣṭa we count that as one. When there is sandi (combination of letters) it is counted as 1 word. So see here in this 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 upto “shi” it becomes 8. Now we will see and count  - i t ya pah ra ja r shi  So it is 8. If you see, we have that many letters only.  ci nta ya n ma na saa ch yu ta m  - Like that we have 8-8 words (letter or akshar). And whatever 2 line shlokas are there, it is all like Bhagavad Gita verse. In Sanskrit it is in 2 lines. In English it is broken into 4 lines.  And we have to understand it word by word - just like how we did now. Please tell.

ity apaḥ prāśya rājarṣiś
cintayan manasācyutam
pratyacaṣṭa kuru-śreṣṭha
dvijāgamanam eva saḥ

We will stop here.

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

With this it is complete. Haribol. Jai Srila Prabhupada ki Jai !!

Our heartfelt thanks to Maharaj on this very sublime lecture on teaching how to study Srimad Bhagavatam and to practise the same in our lives.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev
