Instructions by Simha Guru - Part 3

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Instructions by Simha Guru" wherein we were trying to meditate on some of the wonderful instructions of Srila Bhaktisiddantha Saraswathi Prabhupada. In the previous offering we meditated on the first instruction .

A genuine disciple must possess firm determination and faith in his spiritual master, thinking,

1. I will serve my spiritual master and Lord Gauranga with utmost simplicity.
2. I will follow my spiritual master’s instructions, which have come down from the Supreme Lord.

Now we shall meditate on the next few instructions which are about following the spiritual master.

3. I will never disobey my spiritual master’s orders under the influence of anyone in this world.
4. If following my spiritual master means I must become an animal or go to hell forever, I will never hesitate.
5. I will not follow anyone other than my spiritual master.

Our spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj always says that "Obedience is the greatest remembrance of Krishna." To the degree one obeys the instructions of the spiritual, Sri Guru and Gauranga would be pleased and shower Their grace on them.  Obedience does not mean following those instructions of spiritual master, that we like. If the instructions of spiritual master is not to our personal likes or convenience, but still when we make an effort to follow the instructions of spiritual master, then that will please Krishna.

We can see how obedient Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswathi Thakura to the instructions of his father Srila Bhaktivinod Thakura as well as his spiritual master Srila Gaura Kishore das Babaji Maharaj. As a child when he was about to eat a mango not knowing that it was not offered, his father chastised him. Feeling repentant for his mistake, he never ate mangoes throughout his life. He obediently accepted his father's instruction to take shelter of Srila Gaura Kishore das Babaji Maharaj and never gave up even after being refused few times.

He could understand that both his father and spiritual master wanted him to spread Krishna consciousness to the masses and he tirelessly engaged himself in that service throughout his life. He executed severe austerities like chanting 192 rounds per day for almost 9 years. He had a strong stand against the impersonalists and atheists and had established 64 temples during his life. He was instrumental in printing so many books which include commentaries on Bhagavad Gita, Caitanya Bhagavata and so many spiritual magazines in various Indian languages. He established the Vrajamandal parikrama and Navadip mandala parikrama
He used motor cars, motor boats and radios only to broadcast the message of Lord Krishna. His growing fame was not tolerated by the envious caste-Goswamis during those days and they tried to even kill him, but he was always protected by the Supreme Lord due to his sincere obedience to the orders of his spiritual master.

Krishna willing we shall try to meditate more on the other instructions of Srila Bhakti Siddantha Saraswathi Thakura, in the subsequent offerings.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
