Instructions by Simha Guru - Part 4

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Instructions by Simha Guru" wherein we were trying to meditate on some of the wonderful instructions of Srila Bhaktisiddantha Saraswathi Prabhupada. In the previous offering, we meditated on the first instruction .

A genuine disciple must possess firm determination and faith in his spiritual master, thinking,

1. I will serve my spiritual master and Lord Gauranga with utmost simplicity.
2. I will follow my spiritual master’s instructions, which have come down from the Supreme Lord.
3. I will never disobey my spiritual master’s orders under the influence of anyone in this world.

Now we shall meditate on the next instruction.

4. If following my spiritual master means I must become an animal or go to hell forever, I will never hesitate.

In yesterday's offering, we saw how Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswathi Thakura boldly preached and established Krishna conscious philosophy and silenced the Mayavadi philosophers and caste Goswamis, who were considering that one could be brahmana only by birth and were decrying the fact that devotional service is birthright for all.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswathy Thakura did not want to confine the preaching mission to be confined to India alone. Being a true Mahatma he had compassion for all suffering souls in this material world. When Srila Prabhupada met his Guru, India was still under the clutches of British rule. Like any other Indian, His Divine Grace was also thinking that the need for the hour was to get freedom for the mother-land. But Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswathy Thakura made him realise that the urgent need of the hour is to preach Lord Caitanya's teachings to all - even to the English-speaking people and one need not wait for India's independence to start this global mission. Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswathy Thakura had told him, “If you ever get money, print books.”

Even after Bhaktisiddantha Saraswathy Thakura, left for Goloka, his instructions continued to remain a great source of inspiration for His Divine Grace. Generally when we grow old, the drive to do service dies, down for common people. But for those who are spiritually empowered, their drive to serve Sri Guru and Gauranga keeps increasing. So Srila Prabhupada instead of spending the latter part of life peacefully in Vrindavana, decided to travel to the West.

Life in the Western world in those days was very hellish compared to the peaceful atmosphere in Vrindavana. The people there, had no idea of regulative principles and were considering meat-eating, intoxication, gambling and illicit sex as regular way of life. Also, the climatic conditions in the West are very bad. Despite all these challenges, His Divine Grace did not hesitate to go there. He hardly had anyone who could guarantee to give him financial support for his comfortable stay there. In the beginning, no one knew his greatness or purity, and both in India and outside His Divine Grace did not get any royal treatment. But not minding all these things, His Divine Grace, considering the instructions of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Thakura to be Supreme Will, started the International Society of Krishna Consciousness, printed books, and has been helping millions and millions of souls to get out of the vicious cycle of birth and death.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and all glories to Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura for their causeless compassion for all living beings. If not for them, we would not be chanting now, but rotting in this dark world.

Krishna willing, we shall try to meditate more on the other instructions of Srila Bhakti Siddantha Saraswathi Thakura, in the subsequent offerings.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
