How to Control the Mind - Part 2

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "How to Control the Mind" wherein we were trying to meditate on one of the prayers of Prahlad Maharaj to Lord Narasimha devi (SB 7.9.21). In the previous offering  we saw.

1. Only by surrendering to Krishna and by His grace, the material desires coming out of mind can be replaced by spiritual desires.

Now we shall see further.

Srila Prabhupada in his lecture to the above very nicely explains us about the position of Krishna, maya and the conditioned living entities like us. His Divine Grace says,

1. "Actually our position is to serve Kṛṣṇa." jivera 'svarupa' haya−krsnera 'nitya−dasa.' but we want to become master of the world. This is because a living entity is part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa, so he has got the qualities of Kṛṣṇa in very, very minute, fragmental portion.

2. But Kṛṣṇa is independent svarat, he is nija-lābha-pūrṇaḥ, always complete in Himself. So when we imitate Kṛṣṇa, we want to be complete in ourselves without the help of Kṛṣṇa, this is called māyā. Māyā means that we want to imitate Kṛṣṇa.

3. This māyā manaḥ is very strong, balīyaḥ. It is very, very difficult to cross beyond it, atitaret. Therefore we have to voluntarily surrender. It may take very, very long time, bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate, but if one is intelligent, if one is fortunate, he can take it up immediately.

4. But even though Māyā is very powerful, still she is under the control of the Supreme Lord. Therefore here it is said, saṁsāra-cakram aja ko 'titaret tvad-anyaḥ: "māyā is so strong. I cannot get out of her clutches." Prahlāda Mahārāja knows it. So he says, Ko atitaret: "Who can surpass? Who can get rid of this clutches of māyā?" Tvad-anyaḥ, except by taking shelter of you, your lotus feet? Therefore Kṛṣṇa says that "You surrender to Me, and you'll be free from māyā."

sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo
mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ

"I'll give you protection."   [Bg. 18.66]

That is being described by Prahlāda Mahārāja, that if we become involved in this demoniac culture, then the saṁsāra-cakra, the wheel of repetition of birth and death, will go on, we cannot stop it. It is not possible. But if we take shelter of Krishna, we can very easily come out forever from this vicious cycle of birth and death.

Krishna also says in BG 7.14

daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī
mama māyā duratyayā
mām eva ye prapadyante
māyām etāṁ taranti te

This divine energy of Mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature, is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me can easily cross beyond it.

Krishna willing we shall meditate further on this topic in the  subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva
