Uproot the Weeds of Bhakti - Part 8

Hare Krishna Prabhujis amd Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Uproot the Weeds of Bhakti" which is transcription of one of the nectarean class given by our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on SB verse 11.7.9 in Sri Sri Radha Neelmadhav dham, Houston on May 10 2001. In the previous offering we heard from Maharaj that chanting will help us to concentrate the mind on the scriptures.

Now we shall hear further.

Maharaj:  And in Bhagavad Gita there is a nice verse, it is 6.17. And there are 1,2,3,4,5,6, things we have to have yukta; under our control. See, yuktāhāra, eating must be completely under our control. Because you are overeating or under eating, that’s why you require so many treatments. Please, don’t overeat and don’t under-eat. But at the same time control your eating. If you control eating on one side and on the other side, yuktāhāra-vihārasya, vihāra means our dealings with all the people and our dealings with our own body, that should also be yukta. Yuktāhāracontrol your eating to a very simple food; kichari is the best. Just you mix rice and dhal and put it on a gas fire and within ten minutes it will be ready. And whatever you can put inside you put otherwise take it nicely with butter or ghee. And it is a full food, whole meal, it is a whole meal. Rice is grown by Krishna, so Krishna has given you rice, Krishna has given you lentils, you please have a nice simple food. Don’t complicate your food. If you complicate, then your whole life becomes complicated. I want baaji and patra and your life becomes patra. (Laughter) And you are like a baajia. (laughter) Have you seen baajia; pakoda, you squeeze it and then fry it and then put it in your mouth and then gone. If you are baajia consciousnesses, definitely you will become baajia. If you are Krishna Consciousness, then you become like Krishna. So, don’t be baajia conscious. This is the main thing. Please, please, please, this is the meaning of yukta. Indriya grāmo, all the group of the senses, must be under our control, because the eating is not under our control, then the senses are not under our control. Eating is the root. And as soon as you eat nicely, then the weed, this 'niṣiddhācāra' will not touch you. You will be always your ācāra, always your behaviour will be according to the scriptures. There is no mistake in it.

As soon as you control one thing, only one; your eating, and mouth control, speaking and eating. If you control this, I guarantee you that this 'niṣiddhācāra' will not touch you. You will always behave according to the scriptures. Because your āhāra is sātvik, mode of goodness. That’s why we don’t take onions or garlic or too much of oil or too much of ghee, or too much of this. Nothing too much, yukta, completely under control, balanced, that is yukta āhāra. And as soon as yuktāhāra is there, your vihar, your behaviour, walking about is also under control. You walk nicely, you walk for your health, you just don’t loiter about somewhere, your eyes don’t go anywhere, because all your senses come under control. It is only the nourishment is there. Many times what happens that I am drinking juice.. "Aare man what juice?" He says, "carrot juice." I ask, "why did you drink carrot juice?" He says he drinks because it helps his eyes. So, how many juices are required for the eyes, how much is required. 2 spoon full? Eyes are like this, (Maharaj points to his eyes.) No, no but he will put it in the machine 2 kilos of carrots and blends them. (Maharaj makes the blender noise.) And 2 litres of juice is ready and he says, "I am only taking juices and not taking anything else." Aare man, you only require 2 spoon fulls, why to have 2 litres? In America he says there is plenty of everything. Aare man, America is good, but you don’t require that. Please, this is the meaning of yuktāhāra-vihārasya.

Krishna willing we shall hear more nectar from Maharaj in the subsequent offerings.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Dinavatsal Krishna das
