Miserable World

Dear Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

The recent mail by H G Narahari Krishna prabhu "Blaming the Blemishless Lord" was a wonderful mail. This world is meant to be miserable as it is "duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam". Imagine if all the devotees have a comfortable life with no miseries, then the attachment for this material world will grow more stronger. To think that we will have good time in this world as a devotee is illusion as it can never be but since we are performing sadhana bhakti we should gradually come to the understanding that this place is not for us and if we really want to have a happy life then we should aspire for the spiritual abode of Lord, perform 100% bhakti to Lord and get out from here.

But devotional service is so sweet that even in this material condition and suffering we are still happy as bhakti gives us the power to understand that we are suffering and this suffering is given to us by Lord personally to get detached from this material world and Lord Hari who steals away our misfortune makes us fortunate by giving us an opportunity to accept and understand this misery and purifies us from within. By taking the misery on us in a positive attitude we become more stronger and also the miseries give us an opportunity to think of the Lord more like Queen Kunti. So for a devotee it is a blessing in disguise to have miseries that show the Lord's special favor that He takes away all our attachments to someone we may love or something we like by taking away those things which are impediments to our progress in the path of bhakti.

So we must take it that the Lord has created this world in such a way that we develop a distaste for material world and we should not become attached with this world in any way. This is indeed a special favor. Like every black cloud has a silver lining so every material misery purifies us and makes us more and more closer to the Lord (as our dependence grows more on the Him who is REAL) and at the same time our attraction towards this illusory miserable world becomes lesser and lesser. We must develop this attitude that "come what may but I will never leave the lotus feet of the Lord. He can put me in hell or heaven it doesn't matter. The best protection is His lotus feet and nothing else in this world". This is what He wants from us.

Today the whole world thinks that this is the best place to live and let us develop all facilities for our material enjoyment but it is hard for a materialist to believe that he is suffering. It is only a privilege for a devotee who can clearly see that he is suffering and the whole world is suffering. This is only possible by Krsna and His pure devotee's mercy otherwise we will also be enamored by maya's promise of enjoyment with all that glitters of this material world. Remember it is a promise of enjoyment but not guaranteed enjoyment though it looks like a guaranteed one but its just like a andha kupam or blind well if we fall for it we will hit the rocks below.

Quoting from Queen Kunti prayers SB 1.8.25:

vipadaḥ santu tāḥ śaśvat tatra tatra jagad-guro
bhavato darśanaṁ yat syād apunar bhava-darśanam

I wish that all those calamities would happen again and again so that we could see You again and again, for seeing You means that we will no longer see repeated births and deaths.

When Krsna gives us misery then we are extremely fortunate but this is for very special devotees like Kunti who are very advanced but we must be happy with the fact that He has personally taken the trouble to give us misery means He is personally watching us and that itself is glorious position since He looked at us we have His mercy and protection too along with the package. This special mercy He bestows only upon His special devotees. We should not take things in a negative attitude and walk away from Krishna and His protection.

H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj is the best live example we have in front of us. Even at this old age with so many discomforts he is still preaching and not at all disturbed by these discomforts. By preaching he is taking away all our discomforts and placing us in the care of the Supreme Lord.

I hope one day I can also realize what I am writing here and be more serious in my service and never for once give up the path of bhakti. For this I beg all devotees to please bless me.

Hare Krsna! Sri Harinaam Sankirtan ki jaya.
Bhavadiya dasaanudasa,
