Pepsi Counteracts Pepsi

Hare Krishna Devotees,
Please accept my humble pranams! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is further to my mail on which I had described the behavior of persons who are providentially killed, based on SB 4.6.47. As our Guru Maharaj repeatedly insists, bad behavior always affects our healthy existence and affects our blood circulation. The bad mentality which has to be got rid off, can be easily remembered by the acronym ‘PEPSI’. We all know that Pepsi is a fizzy drink which can seriously affect our health and hence should be avoided. The bad behavioral Pepsi to be avoided is as follows:

P - Polluted mind (durāśayāḥ): Mean-mindedness pollutes our mind and Maharaj says that we go on developing mean mindedness and suffer from heart attack, stomach ulcers, cancer etc.

E - Envious nature (parodayenārpita-hṛd-rujo ’niśam): We are always pained to see the flourishing condition of others. When somebody prospers more than us, we always try to minimize their stature. The subtle envy always flows within us.

P - Piercing words (parān duruktair vitudanty aruntudās): We pierce others with our harsh uttering. In kali-yuga we are all expert in piercing the hearts of others with the arrows of our sharp words.

S - Seeing with Discrimination (pṛthag-dhiyaḥ): The root of discrimination is envy of another’s prosperity. Because we discriminate, we start criticizing others, considering ourselves to be self-appointed judges.

I – I am the enjoyer of all fruitive results (karma-dṛśah): Every one of us is feeling that we are the creators and controllers and hence the bona fide enjoyers of all the fruitive results.

Drinking of this PEPSI poses serious health problems for all of us but this can be counteracted by drinking the following Krishna conscious PEPSI as stated in Srimad Bhagavatam 4.12.37

śāntāḥ sama-dṛśaḥ śuddhāḥ sarva-bhūtānurañjanāḥ
yānty añjasācyuta-padam acyuta-priya-bāndhavāḥ

Persons who are peaceful, equipoised, cleansed and purified, and who know the art of pleasing all other living entities, keep friendship only with the devotees of the Lord; they alone can very easily achieve the perfection of going back home, back to Godhead.

P - Peaceful (śāntāḥ): If we are peaceful it means that we have no demands for sense gratification. This ensures that we are not at all envious of other living entities.

E - Equipoised (sama-dṛśaḥ): A devotee sees everyone on the same transcendental platform. A devotee sees all living entities with spiritual vision and does not discriminate on the platform of the bodily concept of life. Thus ‘seeing with discrimination’ is counteracted by equipoise nature.

P - Purified (śuddhāḥ): A devotee is always purified by constant chanting of the Hare Krishna mahamantra and hence no contamination of the material world can touch him. This counteracts the polluted mind or the mean mindedness.

S - Satisfying all the living entities (sarva-bhūtānurañjanāḥ) : A devotee knows the art of pleasing all the living entities with high class behavior . A devotee’s speech is always gentle and pleasing and this counteracts the piercing words which displeases the living entities.

I – Intimate relationship with the devotees of the Lord (acyuta-priya-bāndhavāḥ): When we go on associating with iswara minded people, then we come to understand that the supreme Lord is the bona fide enjoyer of all the fruitive activities and hence the tendency that ‘I am the enjoyer’ is counteracted.

Thus the Krishna conscious PEPSI as above will take us to Krishna (Ease) and the bad behavioral PEPSI is like the bottled Pepsi and will take us away from Krishna (Disease).

I pray to the spiritual master, the Supreme Lord for their unlimited mercy on this poor soul who has inherited this deep rooted malady by constantly reminding me of this transcendental PEPSI and develop those qualities in this life itself.

Thank you very much.
