Made For Each Other - Part 4

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled "Made for Each Other", wherein we were meditating on how the Divine Couple Lord Rama and Mother Sita are perfect match for each other. We will continue to meditate on the aspects of how they match in terms of beauty.

Beauty of Face: In Ramayana we see that the faces of Lord Rama and Mother Sita are compared to the moon. The moon by its cool rays gives a great comfort to people who are scorched by the sun's rays. In the same way, if one has darshan of the face of Lord Rama and Mother Sita, one can feel great relief from the scorching miseries of material existence. The moon light also nourishes plants and vegetables by helping them in generating all nutrients. In the same way, seeing the faces of Lord Rama and Mother Sita nourishes the creeper of bhakti in our hearts. The Ramayana states the following on Lord Rama's face. (Srimad Ramayanam: 2.3.29)

candrakāntānanaṃ rāmam atīva priyadarśanam
rūpaudāryaguṇaiḥ puṃsāṃ dṛṣṭicittāpahāriṇam

Lord Rama's face was beautiful and soothing like moon and extremely pleasing to look at. By his form and qualities He attracted the sight and hearts of all persons.

Valmiki also explains that Dasaratha was not satiated to see Lord Rama's face, which is like a cloud which gladdens people who are scorched by summer heat. As a perfect match Mother Sita also had a pleasing and beautiful face like the moon and this is stated by Surpanaka to Ravana. Usually one woman does not appreciate other woman's beauty so easily. But we see that Surpanaka was so much attracted by Sita's beauty and started glorifying it to Ravana as follows: (Srimad Ramayanam 3.34.15)

viśālākṣī pūrṇendu sadṛśānanaḥ tu rāmasya
dharmapatnī bhartruḥ priya nityam priya hite rataḥ

Sita, one with her broad-eyes, face similar to the full-moon is the dear and wedded wife of Rama, and she always takes delight in the well-being of her dear one, namely Rama.

Beauty of Hair: Both Lord Rama and Mother Sita had beautiful curly locks of hair all through their lila in this world. Nowadays both men and women have hair fall even at young age due to various reasons such as contaminated food, stress and life style hazards, artificial standards of living. So even at the time of marriage we see that there is no beauty of hair for the couples. People resort to artificial hair dressing for marriage itself, spending thousands of rupees. And even if they have wonderful hair during marriage, as they grow old, the hairs start greying or falling. But in case of the divine couple Sri Sita Rama, Their beauty of hair was natural and unchanged and it was appreciated even by demons. Surpanaka mentions Sita as "Su Keśi", (one with a beautiful long hair) to Ravana (Ramayana 1.34.16). Maricha while talking about Lord Rama to Ravana, said Lord Rama's hair as "śikhi kanakamālayā" (3.38.14) (one who has beautiful locks like golden garlands on his neck).

When we meditate on the beauty of the locks of hair of this divine couple, then we can become less affected by bodily changes due to old age and progress on the path of bhakti. Let us meditate more on the beauty of this divine couple, Lord Rama willing.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Narahari Krishna das
