HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj Vyasa Pooja 2015 - Part 21

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva!

We shall continue with the nectarean offerings done by devotees to our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on the blessed occasion of Maharaj's Vyasa Puja, on December 25 2015, in Sri Sri Radha NeelMadhav dham, Rajkot.

H G Viraja Krishna Prabhuji: Prabhuji mentioned how we can understand the importance which Srila Prabhupada has placed on Srimad Bhagavatam by going through the song, "Markine Bhagavata Dharma" composed by His Divine Grace when he was travelling in Jaladuta ship, on board to United States. In that song Prabhupada quotes the 5 shlokas 1.2.17 through 21 from Srimad Bhagavatam and prays to Krishna that, "The words of Srimad Bhagavatam are Your incarnation, and if a sober person repeatedly receives it with submissive aural reception, then he will be able to understand Your message." And understanding the mood of His Divine Grace, Maharaj took Srimad Bhagavatam as his life and soul and he not only relished it within the four walls of his bhajan kutir, but he gave the taste of Srimad Bhagavatam to all the devotees whom he met during his travel around the world. So following his legacy, we should also study Srimad Bhagavatm, recite the verses lovingly and spread the message to others. Prabhuji then shared couple of his memories with Maharaj.

"Recently I have been listening to Sydney Bhagavata Saptah which Maharaj had given many years ago. At that time due to the services that had to be done during that time, I did not have the opportunity to sit through the whole saptah and listen to Maharaj. But now when I hear his tapes, I feel as if I am sitting in the hall and Maharaj is speaking to me and speaking very personally, giving the instructions. It was a very lively experience, just organizing that Bhagavatam saptah. Lot of devotees put in lot of effort for that saptah, to that extent that sometimes devotees had to miss out to hear Maharaj personally all 7 days. But over the time, I realised that even if we have missed out then, if we had been serving Maharaj at that time, then we are still benefitted, because we have actually facilitated in Srila Gurudeva's mission.

I would like to share one incident in Dwaraka, which touched me during my stay with Maharaj. Each morning after Srimad Bhagavatam class, Maharaj would speak with devotees and visitors downstairs. And I used to go to his room, clean it up, wait for him, set the morning prasad. One day, I was waiting upstairs. Maharaj did not come. And as some of you might remember, in those days we had those wooden stairs in Dwaraka guest-house, which was very old and appeared like it would crumble any time. Maharaj used to climb the stairs on his own, three storeys up to come to his room. So when Maharaj didn't come, I thought I should go down to check what is happening. And when I reached the second floor, I saw what Maharaj was doing. He was bending over holding the wall, and on his right hand he was holding the broom. And he was sweeping the floor. Immediately I took the broom from Maharaj and said, "Please, what are you doing Maharaj?" Maharaj said very gravely, "No, Viraj. This is very dirty and it has to be cleaned," I said, "Yes, Maharaj. It will be cleaned. Lets go upstairs now and I will immediately come and clean." And the realisation that dawned upon me was that, there was no one there to see that Maharaj would be cleaning that place and no one would be there to glorify, "Oh, you are old. You need not clean that place". But Maharaj was so genuine about this cleanliness and that it is Krishna's property, that he himself took the effort, even though he did not need to. He could have very easily made the excuse, "I am old, I don't have the strength etc." But yet he took the broom and was cleaning it and this showed the importance of how clean we should be. That really touched, especially the genuineness of Maharaj in that matter. Jai H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj ki Jai !"

Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more glories of Maharaj in the subsequent offering.

Hare Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das.
