The Greatness of Lord Damodara- Part 9

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in the conclusion of the previous offering titled "The Greatness of Lord Damodara" wherein we were trying to meditate on the meaning of Srimad Bhagavatam 10.9.13. In previous offerings, we saw that the Lord is unlimited in space and time and that Krishna is the Supreme cause. He also pervades everything in His spiritual form and hence He is beyond measure. Hence it is not possible for Mother Yashoda to bind Lord Krishna with a rope. But how come she bound Him?

This reveals the quality of the Lord namely bhṛtya-vaśyatā(being controlled by the devotee) as explained in Srimad Bhagavatam 10.9.19:

evaṁ sandarśitā hy aṅga hariṇā bhṛtya-vaśyatā
sva-vaśenāpi kṛṣṇena yasyedaṁ seśvaraṁ vaśe

O Maharaja Parikshit, this entire universe, with its great, exalted demigods like Lord Siva, Lord Brahma and Lord Indra, is under the control of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Yet the Supreme Lord has one transcendental attribute: He comes under the control of His devotees. This was now exhibited by Krishna in this pastime.

Srila Prabhupada states in the purport, "This bhṛtya-vaśyatā does not mean that He is under the control of the servant; rather, He is under the control of the servant's pure love... Krishna is always fully independent; when He becomes subordinate to His devotees, this is a display of ananda-cinmaya-rasa, the humor of transcendental qualities that increases His transcendental pleasure. Everyone worships Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and therefore He sometimes desires to be controlled by someone else. Such a controller can be no one else but a pure devotee."

And Kartik month is glorious because this pastime happened in this month and those who offer ghee lamps and worship this form of the Lord can advance in the path of developing pure love for the Lord.

I pray at the lotus feet of Gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada, Lord Damodara, and Mother Yashoda so that I will develop a bit of desire to attain love for the Lord.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Narahari Krishna das
