Ante Narayana Smrti - Part 34

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Ante Nārāyaṇa Smrti". In the previous offerings we saw Ajamila's return to Lord's abode and inquiry made by Yamadutas to Yamaraj. Now we shall see further. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 6.3.18 Yamaraj says,

bhūtāni viṣṇoḥ sura-pūjitāni
durdarśa-liṅgāni mahādbhutāni
rakṣanti tad-bhaktimataḥ parebhyo
mattaś ca martyān atha sarvataś ca

The order carriers of Lord Vishnu, who are worshiped even by the demigods, possess wonderful bodily features exactly like those of Vishnu and are very rarely seen. The Vishnudutas protect the devotees of the Lord from the hands of enemies, from envious persons and even from my jurisdiction, as well as from natural disturbances.

Yamaraj wanted his servants to understand that Vishnudutas were not ordinary souls. They are 'sura-pūjitāni' - worshiped by demigods. His Divine Grace in his purport to the above verse very nicely says, "Yamaraja has specifically described the qualities of the Vishnudutas to convince his own servants not to be envious of them. Yamaraja warned the Yamadutas that the Vishnudutas are worshiped with respectful obeisances by the demigods and are always very alert to protect the devotees of the Lord from the hands of enemies, from natural disturbances and from all dangerous conditions in this material world."

Both Vishnudutas and demigods are all dear devotees of the Lord and so they are very pleased when they see living entities engaging in devotional service in this material world. So whenever there is some danger for the devotees, they ensure to remove the obstacles. In his wonderful purport to verse 1.19.18 Srila Prabhupada mentions, "A demigod takes pleasure in seeing someone go back to Godhead. He is always pleased with a devotee of the Lord, so much so that by his adhidaivic powers he may help the devotees in all respects. And by their actions, the Lord is pleased with them. There is an invisible chain of complete cooperation between the Lord, the demigods and the devotee of the Lord on earth."

On January 26 2000, there was a major earthquake in Gujarat, India. It was the same day when our beloved spiritual master HH Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj had arranged for foundation ceremony of Dwaraka temple and Rathayatra. Although the existing guesthouse in which Maharaj and few devotees were staying at the time of earth-quake was very old and already had some cracks in the walls, it remained unaffected by earth-quake, whereas many adjacent new buildings fell down. So on that day, once the earth-quake was over, both the foundation ceremony and Rathyatra took place in a gorgeous manner. Maharaj had also faced challenges in the form of envious people who threatened Maharaj that they would not let Maharaj alive to build the temple. But neither natural disturbance, nor envious people could stop Maharaj's service and within few years, marvellous stone temple was constructed for Sri Sri Rukmini Dwarakadish.

His Divine Grace says in one the lectures that we should always have faith that Krishna and His associates will always protect us and so we should simply continue with devotional service, without being daunted by the calamities of the material world. Krishna willing we shall hear further from Yamaraj, the glories of Supreme Lord in the subsequent offerings.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
