Don't Take Devotees for Granted

Dear Devotees,
Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble pranams! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

Last week we had a wonderful association of our most lovable godbrother HG Devakinandan prabhuji. He being an implicit follower and constant associate of our Gurudev, flooded the Abu Dhabi and Sharjah city with his transcendental kirtans and lectures literally invoking all of us from deep slumber of comfort zone of cosy devotional service to do the real intense devotional service. I would like to share one of his wonderful realization for us to imbibe in our lives. He was taking the class on Bhagavad gita 7.30

sādhibhūtādhidaivaṁ māṁ sādhiyajñaṁ ca ye viduḥ
prayāṇa-kāle ’pi ca māṁ te vidur yukta-cetasaḥ

Those in full consciousness of Me, who know Me, the Supreme Lord, to be the governing principle of the material manifestation, of the demigods, and of all methods of sacrifice, can understand and know Me, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, even at the time of death.

Prabhuji was emphasizing the point that to come into contact with Krishna consciousness is not only by mercy of the Lord but mainly by devotees. Since most of us have not come to Krishna consciousness on our own, it is mainly due to devotee's mercy. By that mercy we have been put in the most auspicious path of devotional service to the Lord and we are trying to understand the Lord in a small way. Therefore it is very important to understand that through this transcendental association we are becoming purified. He was emphasizing very important point on the meaning of "transcendental association" on the purport in which Srila Prabhupada states, "In the transcendental association of Krishna consciousness, one can understand how the Supreme Lord is the governing principle of the material manifestation and even of the demigods".

Transcendental association with devotees means :

1. Except me everyone else is a pure devotee.
2. So never take for granted any devotee whether neophyte or not.
3. Treat everybody as you treat the Lord and the spiritual master and serve them accordingly.
4. Only topics regarding Krishna should be discussed among devotees and not fault finding, criticizing and blaspheming other devotees.
5. Be always grateful to the devotee who has put in the path and never forget him.

Our tendency is that as soon as we spend so many years in Krishna consciousness we tend to think everybody as lower than us especially we have some knowledge about the scriptures. Knowledge is not owned by us . It belongs to Krishna. We have acquired this knowledge through transcendental association of devotees. We take every devotee for granted and started dictating our terms to them. These tendencies make our association non-transcendental and we don't feel charged up after association with them. Also we do not understand the value of this transcendental association and because we always take them for granted. Suppose at the time of our death, by Krishna's mercy we were able to have the association of one such devotee, immediately the devotee will remind us of all the transcendental association we had with them and we will be able to remember Krishna. This remembrance at the time of death will assure us of a place in spiritual world. How much valuable is the transcendental association of devotees! How can we afford to take devotees for granted? This is the greatest pitfall which binds us in the material world and unable to really feel the transcendence at the time off association. The association becomes a get-together party and there is no difference between Krishna consciousness and other religious groups. That is the reason that we are unable to understand the Krishna is the governing principle of cosmic manifestation.

Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam is teaching us that we have to endeavor for this transcendental association and never take devotees for granted. This will ensure our understanding that Lord Krishna is the governing principle of cosmic manifestations, demigods and sacrifices.

I therefore pray to the Supreme Lord Krishna, Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev to give their causeless mercy to understand this invaluable important aspect of transcendental association with devotees and never to take them for granted while dealing with them.

Thank you very much.
Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Sajjana Priya Krishna das
Abu Dhabi.
