Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.
In Srimad Bhagavad Gita 9.2, Lord Krishna says,
rāja-vidyā rāja-guhyaṁ pavitram idam uttamam
pratyakṣāvagamaṁ dharmyaṁ su-sukhaṁ kartum avyayam
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.
The last line of this verse, “su-sukhaṁ kartum avyayam” - means that ‘devotional service is joyfully performed’ . If we don’t experience transcendental pleasure while engaging in bhakti – it implies that we are not fully concentrating our mind on the Supreme. We need to be cheerful while performing service to Lord. Happiness and bliss appear in our hearts as soon as we think of the Lord while serving Him for He is the source of eternal joy. No matter how small the service is one has to do with love rather than performing it mechanically as a ritual. As Srila Prabhupada has quoted in the end of purport to above verse, “God accepts only the love with which things are offered to Him.” Cheerfulness is contagious and people around us will also be inspired to devotional service when we perform it in a joyful attitude. People who are not involved in devotional activities will surely be bewildered when they go through the various pangs of maya - either in the form of troubles caused by other living entities or by diseases. A true devotee of the Lord will not be disturbed when he faces such situations and would joyfully continue with his service. This very nature - would inspire others to know the secret of his happiness and to take up to this process. Srila Prabhupada’s life was an example for this. Frequently we hear people say that one of the remarkable things which attracted them to His Divine Grace and his teachings was the big oceanic smile on his face. So may we follow the foot-steps of His Divine Grace and cheerfully perform the devotional service and share the joy with everyone.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
