Happiness and Peace

Kalacakra Krsna das

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

Last week when I was talking to my spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj, he made a very profound remark. He said, "Somehow even during my young age and grhastha ashram also, I always maintained a happy disposition even while faced with so many difficulties. There were several trying circumstances in our life, but we always were prepared to face it and always had full faith that Krishna is the supreme controller and He knows what is best for us."

Continuing further, he then made another punching remark, "Worst comes worst, if not anything else, keeping our mood always happy and peaceful gives us a sound and healthy body."

So many devotees have made this comment on seeing Maharaja and spending even a few moments with him, that he was one of the most peaceful and happiest person they have seen in their life.

This is a very simple and practical instruction which we can all practice in our own life. It doesn't need so much philosophy or any special ability. All we need is a simple and straight-forward attitude with no malice towards other living entities. We can see very positive results in no time if we simply practice this attitude in our life as well.

But to practice this attitude we have to first of all have firm faith Lord Krsna ultimately control everything. Then automatically simple and straight-forward nature follows. As Lord Krsna says in a very powerful verse in BG 2.66,

nāsti buddhir ayuktasya na cāyuktasya bhāvanā
na cābhāvayataḥ śāntir aśāntasya kutaḥ sukham

One who is not connected with the Supreme [in Krsna Consciousness] can have neither transcendental intelligence nor a steady mind, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace?

In the first line of the purport Srila Prabhupada makes a punching statement, "Unless one is in Krsna Consciousness there is no possibility of peace."

Being in Krsna consciousness means, accepting Krsna's supreme authority. As soon as we accept this, then we have no reason to become unnecessarily agitated over anything that may come our way. Then automatically peace and happiness enter our life.

Maharaj then ended with some more words to meditate upon. He said, "The nature of this material world is to drag us down. We should not give in to the tricks of material nature. Our only shelter is Krsna (kṛṣṇaṁ vinā kā gatiḥ) and we should have complete faith that He will do what is best for us. What He gives, we accept and what He doesn't give, we do not accept."

My sincere prayers unto the Supreme Lord and my Guru Maharaj that I shall realize these golden words at least before I leave this body and be ready to accept whatever Krsna provides me according to what I deserve.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das.
