Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All Glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

All of us are looking forward to auspiciousness and good fortune throughout our lives. We seek it in so many ways. We are desirous that our presence should invoke auspiciousness for all. We think that we can become auspicious by possessing or wearing certain items considered to be auspicious. This is all external. Srimad Bhagavatam gives us the secret to becoming good fortune personified and being all auspicious for everyone in verse 4.6.35,

vidyā-tapo-yoga-patham āsthitaṁ tam adhīśvaram
carantaṁ viśva-suhṛdaṁ vātsalyāl loka-maṅgalam

The demigods saw Lord Siva situated in his perfection as the master of the senses, knowledge, fruitive activities and the path of achieving perfection. He was the friend of the entire world, and by virtue of his full affection for everyone, he was very auspicious.

The very name Siva means that He is all auspicious. But externally we see that He associates with the demons in the crematorium, his locks of hair are scattered all over his body, He is garlanded with human skulls and smeared with ashes from the crematorium. But in spite of all these inauspicious appearance, great personalities like Brahma honor Him by accepting the flowers offered to his lotus feet and placing them with great respect on their heads. The reason for this auspiciousness is very nicely explained by Srila Prabhupada in his purport to SB 4.6.35

Vidyā  - Lord Shiva is full of knowledge and wisdom.
Tapah - austerity. The Lord is always engaged in austerity. Even though His wife is the reigning Goddess of material nature, we see Lord Siva is a perfect controller of senses.
Yoga patham - always situated in the path of devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

On account of possessing these exalted attributes, Lord Shiva, by his actions within this material world, teaches all conditioned souls how to engage in devotional service twenty-four hours a day. Therefore he is described here as loka-maṅgala, good fortune personified for all conditioned souls.

Vātsalyāl loka-maṅgalam- On account of his great compassion in His heart and full affection for all the conditioned souls, He is all auspicious for everyone and is the friend of all.

Thus the way to all auspiciousness is extreme compassion and affection for the conditioned souls and the way to compassion is through knowledge, austerity and loving devotional service.

Hare Krishna.

Thank you very much.
