Power of Krishna Bhakti

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

While explaining about the glories of devotional service to Vasudeva, Narada Muni says in Srimad Bhagavatam 11.2.12,

śruto ’nupaṭhito dhyāta ādṛto vānumoditaḥ
sadyaḥ punāti sad-dharmo deva-viśva-druho ’pi hi

Pure devotional service rendered to the Supreme Lord is spiritually so potent that simply by hearing about such transcendental service, by chanting its glories in response, by meditating on it, by respectfully and faithfully accepting it, or by praising the devotional service of others, even persons who hate the demigods and all other living beings can be immediately purified.

Bhakti or devotional service is so potent like fire that its capable of burning out the impurities of people who simply hear about the service and appreciate the same. What more can we expect from the Lord? He is so merciful and kind that even if we are not rendering pure devotional service - simply if we hear about the pure devotional service done by others, chant it glories, respectfully and faithfully acknowledge and appreciate the service of others, we become immediately purified even if we are atheistic in nature.

Initially when we used to hear from devotees that they gave up coffee, tea etc after studying Prabhupada's books, we were unable to understand the connection between the two. But after studying this verse, we could understand that just by studying the service of pure devotee - one can be completely purified. Another important lesson to be learnt from this verse is that we should not disrespect or decry the devotional service done by the others.  Lord is impartial and treats everyone equally. In the case of Sethu-bandhan also Lord Ram considered the service of squirrel same as that of Hanuman. Every soul in this world is a part and parcel of the Supreme Lord and each one is bestowed with a special potency by the will of the Lord. So when they execute their energy in the service of the Lord, we should never make the mistake of blaspheming the service.

In fact, the very first offence to be avoided while chanting the holy names of the Lord is - "to blaspheme the devotees who have dedicated their lives in propagating the holy names of the Lord." So even if we have not yet started pure devotional service unto the Lord, we should at least refrain from blaspheming the service of such great souls who are sacrificing their time, wealth, energy and life in the Lord's service. Instead if we respectfully hear and appreciate the service of pure devotees - all the impurities in our heart are vanquished immediately.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das and Sudarshana devi dasi.
