Krishna's Reciprocation to Surrendered Souls

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev.

Except devotional service to the Supreme Lord, everything else in this world can give us only temporary happiness. All of our endeavours for material happiness only results in frustrations. The process of devotional service unto Supreme Lord is completely blissful, eternal and soul satisfying. We can see this from the wonderful prayers of the demigods headed by Lord Brahma, to the Supreme Lord in 8th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. The demigods were defeated by demons and were bereft of all opulences and were completely frustrated. They approached Lord Brahma to give them the solution to get out of this frustration. Immediately Lord Brahma remembered the Supreme Lord and took them to the Lord in Sveta dvipa and started offering prayers to the Supreme Lord for relief. In this verse Lord Brahma through this prayer is instructing the demigods and of course all of us the futility of material world and bliss of Krishna consciousness in just two lines of Srimad Bhagavatam verse (8.5.47). The verse, translation and purport are all worth meditating.

kleśa-bhūry-alpa-sārāṇi karmāṇi viphalāni vā
dehināṁ viṣayārtānāṁ na tathaivārpitaṁ tvayi

Karmis are always anxious to accumulate wealth for their sense gratification, but for that purpose they must work very hard. Yet even though they work hard, the results are not satisfying. Indeed, sometimes their work results only in frustration. But devotees who have dedicated their lives to the service of the Lord can achieve substantial results without working very hard. These results exceed the devotee's expectations.

In his wonderful purport to the above verse Srila Prabhupada writes, "We can practically see how the devotees who have dedicated their lives for the service of the Lord in the Krishna consciousness movement are getting immense opportunities for the service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead without working very hard. The Krishna consciousness movement actually started with only forty rupees, but now it has more than forty crores worth of property, and all this opulence has been achieved within eight or ten years. No karmi can expect to improve his business so swiftly, and besides that, whatever a karmi acquires is temporary and sometimes frustrating. In Krishna consciousness, however, everything is encouraging and improving."

We also see in case of Sudama, he just wanted to see the Lord and did not want to ask any favour from Him in return. But pleased by his devotion, Krishna blessed him with golden palaces, much beyond his expectation. I was thinking why Srila Prabhupada wrote, 'the results of Krishna consciousness exceed the devotees' expectations'. But His Divine Grace has given his personal transcendental experience in the purport. Prabhupada never expected the movement would fetch 40 crores with 40 rupees in the span of 8 years. He simply wanted to please his spiritual master and Sri Krishna and just started the movement with whatever he had and Krishna reciprocated to his sincerity and surrender in an inconceivable manner by empowering him to establish this international movement.

The purports of Srila Prabhupada are his transcendental ecstacies. Even before starting the Hare Krishna movement, or going to United states, he used to keep writing these purports, all day and night, in his humble dwelling in Sri Sri Radha Damodar temple in Vrindavan. And later when he was fully busy all day in preaching, managing temples all over the world, travelling to different countries, still he continued with his sadhana and translation of Srimad Bhagavatam in the nights. So if we neglect reading this great treasure given by him, we can never really relish spiritual life in Krishna consciousness. Our beloved spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj used to quote the following statement of Srila Prabhupada, "Why am I writing these books at 1 am, if you people are not going to study?"

So let us respect the efforts taken by His Divine Grace to translate this great literature and benefit from the same, by studying his books scrutinisingly and sincerely try to practise the instructions provided by him. Maharaj always advised us to take shelter of Srimad Bhagavatam, especially in times of trouble and every time we could get lot of solace from this great literature. I fall at the lotus feet of Gurudev and Srila Prabhupada and pray for their mercy so that I abide by their instructions.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
