Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble pranams. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

Wish you all a wonderful celebration of Govardhan Pooja, the most fascinating pastime of the Lord. Even while reading this amazing pastime of the Lord in chapters 24, 25 and 26 of the tenth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, we can really feel how irresistible is the charm of the Lord. The wonderful explanations Krishna gives in a logical way to his father Nanda Maharaj to convince him of His radical proposal that sacrifice has to be performed only for the pleasure of the cows, the brahmanas and Govardhana hill really captures our mind. The point to note here is that in 10.24.2, Sukadev Goswami says, "praśrayāvanato ’pṛcchad"- He humbly inquired from the elders about the arrangements being made for the yajna.

Today we see that the younger generation is so very inquisitive and they want to know why a particular activity or ceremony is being observed. That is something to be appreciated just as Krishna is cleverly inquiring, "This ritualistic endeavor of yours should be clearly explained to Me. Is it a ceremony based on a scriptural injunction, or simply a custom of ordinary society?"

Blind following of things is very much condemned. But the thing is that the younger generation while questioning should learn from the Lord, His humble way of inquiry from His elders even though He is the master of all religious principles. Nowadays the children are asking so many things in a challenging mood and this does not help them in any manner. In the olden days, children just followed whatever was instructed to them but an inquisitive child would have followed this only out of fear that he would be chastised if he starts questioning. So it is the responsibility of the older generation also to understand things in their proper perspective so that we know what we are doing and this will lead to enthusiasm to the younger generation. Our eternal father Srila Prabhupada has shown the perfect way by taking so much pain explaining the reason and logic behind everything and this is the reason there are so many enthusiastic children who have taken up Krishna consciousness and this treasure we can keep on passing down the generations. Jay Srila Prabhupada!

On this auspicious occasion let us all pray to the Lord who lifted Govardhana hill with one finger, just as a small child picks up a mushroom to play with and in that way protected the cowherd community and destroyed Indra's false pride. Krishna is Gopi Jana Vallabha- He is very very dear to the Gopis. As our dear Guru Maharaj always says, "if we become immersed in His love just like the Gopis, then He will become Girivaradhari for us also. He will lift all our burdens and relieve all our anxieties."

Jaya Gopijana Vallabha! Jaya Girivaradhari!
