Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
On the eve of the Appearance of Lord Vamanadeva, H G Vaijayantimala mathaji had nicely quoted a punching verse spoken by the Lord. Here is a Prabhupada punch from the purport for that verse 8.19.24.
"If happiness is the ultimate goal of life, one must be satisfied with the position in which he is placed by providence."
Another similar statement that Prabhupada makes in SB 1.2.14 is ...
"If realization of the Absolute Truth is the ultimate aim of life, it must be carried out by all means."
The interesting thing to note in these two statements is that there is complete independence for us to choose whether to be happy or not (or realize the Absolute Truth or not). That is what Prabhupada means by "if". But once we have chosen that option, then we got to follow the prescription, no matter what it takes to achieve it. That's what Prabhupada means by using "must".
The word "ultimate" is a measure of the priority that we give to the goal. The higher the priority, the harder will be the effort to achieve it.
Thank you very much,
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada,
