Narada Muni - Father of Devotional Service - Part 15

Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!

This is in continuation of the previous offering titled, "Narada Muni - The Father of Devotional Service". In the previous offering we saw how after receiving instructions from Narada Muni, the Pracetas performed austerities and pleased the Lord.

16. Bodily conception of life is root of all causes: Lord blessed Pracetas that their qualities will be celebrated all over the world. Now, Pracetas wonderfully glorify Lord Krishna's unlimited mercy in Srimad Bhagavatam verse 4.30.27,

rūpaṁ bhagavatā tv etad aśeṣa-kleśa-saṅkṣayam
āviṣkṛtaṁ naḥ kliṣṭānāṁ kim anyad anukampitam

Dear Lord, we conditioned souls are always covered by ignorance in the bodily conception of life. We therefore always prefer the miserable conditions of material existence. To deliver us from these miserable conditions, you have advented yourself in this transcendental form. This is evidence of your unlimited causeless mercy upon those of us who are suffering in this way. Then what to speak of the devotees to whom You are always so favorably disposed?

Above verse indicates that our problems are created by ourselves and no one can be blamed. We desire all types of sense enjoyment and ownership. Our conception of material life is enjoyment, enjoyment and enjoyment. We want to enjoy Krishna's resources without even acknowledging them. We cannot tolerate any one else's welfare. We think that, "whatever opulence is available in the world are meant for my family and me." Which means we always prefer miserable conditions of material existence. Because of our tendencies for sense gratification and ownership, we commit sins and thereafter face suffering. Thus, we ourselves choose the path of miserable conditions of life.

On the contrary, Lord's devotees perform austerities and sacrifices for the benefit of the living entity and for the satisfaction of Krishna. They do not desire anything for their ownselves. Their only goal is welfare of the world. Therefore, Krishna is always pleased with them. In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 10.86.34 King Bahulasva says, "niṣkiñcanānāṁ śāntānāṁ munīnāṁ yas tvam ātma-daḥ" Lord Krishna gives Himself to the sages who call nothing as their own.

Pracetas glorify Lord Krishna as ocean of mercy as He finds some way or the other to come before living entity to remove suffering. Here, Pracetas show one of the great qualities of the devotees of the Lord Sri Krishna which is humility.  They consider themselves as suffering conditioned souls. Furthermore, Pracetas say how glorious are the pure devotees of Lord to whom Lord is always favorably inclined.

Krishna willing, we will meditate more on this topic in subsequent offering.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
