AMALA PURAN---SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM

Maharaj: singing jaya radha madhava…..(devotees singing after him)

Mahara: hare krsna…

Maharaj: raghupathi raghava…….

Maharaj (to a devotee) Ysterday I saw you

Devotee: I was in Mayapur,

Maharaj: nice to see you again.

In Srimad  Bhagavatam it is very nicely said, because we are in a risky world, you know, so if you see a living entity again we should be very happy as it is a rebirth again.

Maharaj: Bring the 4th canto. 7.28 4th canto-- beautiful verse. I remember that way-- 4th canto 7th chapter verse no 28. So I multiply 4*7=28 I get the verse & I never forget. Srimad Bhagavatam is really extra beautiful scripture you know because we do not know the importance of Srimad Bhagavatam and what is there were there in Srimad Bhagavatam that is why we are not attracted to it. We are in the temple, we are devotees, we pass so many years in the temple and being all from India we are really devotees but even then we don’t know what is there in it. And that is why this Puraan we, completely neglect. The first thing we don’t, understand the meaning of Puraan.

Maharaj enquires a devotee’s name and well being. He visited his shop, opening ceremony of his shop. Enquires how his business is running .He is a transport businessman, so we can’t trust him. (Jokes with him.)

The thing is the meaning of Puraan we don’t know .The British, you know with all due respects to them they were in our country for 200 yrs nearly and they wanted to kill vedic culture and unless they kill our culture they cannot introduce their culture and we are foolish to copy them. So they came to India and they wanted to finish off these things. So they twisted our words instead of the word Puraan they gave us completely wrong translation. And then they thought that they called it mythology. Mythology means mentally concocted things. They couldn’t understand anything and they thought that what is this Parikshit Maharaj is sitting and Shukadev is saying, they couldn’t understand anything so they thought that this is some mentally concocted thing, it doesn’t have any value, and so they gave it wrong translation. And we, we were worshipping white people. When we saw white people, we were kneeling down before them as if they were Krsna, --you know.We took it from them. You know that ,what is his name, the education minister Lord Macaulay, we call Lord you know, don’t worry McCauley means in English, Scottish Irish and we know that half of their lives the Irish and Scottish they spent in pubs. They are very famous, Irish people and Scottish to visit the pubs. Maybe this is a pub monger you know. He came to India and became the head of the Education Department. And then the Queen’s Government or the King’s Government his majesty they call and they handed over the powers to him and they told him you destroy their culture so that we can establish our culture. And so what happened these fellows they didn’t understand anything about Puraan and this the Maha Puraan-- greatest, Granthraj Shrimad Bhagavatam. So they termed this very wrongly and because they gave us wrong translation even now in Goudiya Sampradaya book, you know Gaudiya Mutt in Calcutta in their books they are still translating it as mythology. I wrote to them many times that please correct yourself it is not mythology. pura bhavati iti puranam. Pura bhavati means things which have happened before, that is history, these are the histories and there is a difference between the ordinary history and Srimad  Bhagavatam. Ordinary history  is in a chronological order you know this person he was born in this year, he was brought up in this year, then he married 17 times in this year, then he was dead, conquered this and that, these are all chronological order. So when history comes to our mind we always look to the material histories, and material histories are without varying from the chronological order. Whereas these histories they are not in a chronological order, we don’t know when they came? when they landed? we don’t bother about it. This Puraan only deals with Krsna katha, so whatever relevant to Krsna katha, it is included in it .Then whether it is an elephant and a crocodile or whether it is a king or his subjects or a mendicant like Narada and somebody else we don’t worry about it. Anywhere they found out pure Krishna Katha and that is included  in this Puraan and that is Puraan. And all Puraans, 18 Puraans, very nice Garuda Puraan,,you ‘ll be surprised to see that Puraan everything is included in the Puraan, including our Ayurvedic science and so many other things in Garuda Puraan. In the same way in Bhagavatam, it is only about Krishna Katha and that is why this Puraan is known as amalam. The importance of Bhagavata Puraan  is described in the Bhagavata Puraan. In the 12th Canto13th chapter and verse no18, describes the importance of Bhagavatam and if you understand the importance of Bhagavatam  you will never leave  this Puraan.  That is why we should really try to understand what it is. That verse is beautiful you know and it is in a nice meter nice very devotional meter,

Maharaj sings lovingly—

çrémad-bhägavataà puräëam amalaà yad vaiñëavänäà priyaà

yasmin päramahaàsyam ekam amalaà jïänaà paraà géyate

tatra jïäna-viräga-bhakti-sahitaà naiñkarmyam äviskåtaà

tac chåëvan su-paöhan vicäraëa-paro bhaktyä vimucyen naraù

In 4lines Vyasa Bhagavaan very nicely puts before us what is this Puraan. He says in the first line Shrimad Bhagavatam Puraanam, it is Puraan as I told you Pura bhavati, history it is a history and Puraanam amalam spotless doesn’t have any  material contamination,. When the question of Krsna comes, suddham, completely pure. In which house He enters the house becomes pure. If He enters into our own life, our life becomes pure. Krsna and anger cannot go together. We never become angry and if at all we become angry, we try to control our tongue. That is Puraan. That is this Shrimad Bhagavatam. Once it happened, we were staying in Ethiopia --you know. I stayed there for 4 or 5 years. So we had a neighbor, Indian neighbor and they were fighting like anything-- cats and dogs . So for nearly 6 months we heard them you know I think it is very hard. So one day I went to their house and I paid obeisance to them and told them please forgive if I had committed any offence but I have to come to you. Come--Come he said. So I told him there is some misunderstanding between you and your wife. Please don’t do this. He said, it is her behavior, you know she behaves like this you know, argument you know. So I told him please I request one thing. You please follow for God’s sake. You will be peaceful, we will be peaceful. So I told him there is no need of stopping the fight, you go on fighting-- because I saw that it was impossible to stop the argument because she had so much to tell about him and he had about her. So I told  them you please go on fighting but do one thing that whenever you fight you don’t open your mouth [laughter] you do whatever you like ,but don’t open your mouth, I said that because once something comes out of mouth we cannot swallow that then it creates unnecessary burden . So I told him you go on fighting but just keep the mouth shut. So they tried you know and we were seeing them fighting and it was a very nice fight you know [Maharaj shows some actions and everbody laughs.]  So they were kept quiet-- fighting very hard, but the mouth was completely shut, so it went on about a month-- you know, but then both were tired and then kept quiet. So this is our Shrimad Bhagavata  Puraan. You know this our Krsna, this is our Krsna. If He enters into our life everybody around us becomes completely satisfied. We don’t worry about our whims, but we always worry about the persons who are around us. Before reading Bhagavatam we worry about our own whims, I want this, I want that, Iwant this--why are you doing this? Instead of this, what do you want? Alright we’ll be together and there ends the matter .This is the beauty of Srimad Bhagavatam and that is why it is known as a-malam. Mal means dirt, contaminatoin, material contamination particularly. Where there is no material, cannot be any material contamination that is Puraanam amalam yad vaishnavaanaam priyam and because it is a malam ,we are Vashnavaas, we are Vishnu Bhaktaas and because we are Vishnu bhaktaas, such Puraan is very dear to us otherwise, was Prabhupad mad to sit at  1’o clock in the morning  to translate these things? And he has given us completely clear everything and now it is our duty  to go through it and  purify our life .Unless you purify your existence your existence is completely mogham, useless.Don’t think that you can go on with the Puraan and with the  dirty activities again .Don’t get upset with the situations, situations will always agitate,  you  have to completely change, completely change, please change for the good  and convert your own situation into a very nice favorable situation by controlling yourself . Nobody else has the capacity to harm you; you are one who is harming yourself. We ourselves have to be blamed you know, we many times blame others .Because our body construction, our construction of the body is such that we only see others, I can see your face very clearly, however hard I try could I see my cheeks? However hard I try-- I may see the reflection in the mirror, it is not the real thing. You cannot  see your own face, you can see only others and because of this bodily construction ,we have a permanent  tendency in our body to blame others for own defects and I always point out fingers (….) Frankly speaking nobody does anything; we are the one who are completely wrong .And when you point out  finger at others you know, you see one finger is towards him and three are towards me, so why to worry about one worry about three .You know when we start blaming ourselves the whole thing completely subsides, you try, you try, in your misunderstanding you try please these things. So we are explaining  what is Srimad Bhagavatam. So instead of blaming others for own difficulties we should inspect our own self and you will find out that when you create this tendency, the house which was Kurukshetra yuddha--which was the place for Kurkshetra war will be completely very  peaceful. Completely will  change for the good  and all the living entities who are staying in the house will be completely satisfied. And instead of just blaming each other and shouting and screaming we will completely be peaceful, we will be smiling at each other. This is the Bhagavatam puraan. This is amalam, when our life becomes without any contamination, then life becomes completely like Krsna. Have you seen Krsna any time frowning? See this picture.  He is 100 yrs old and even then He is as fresh as if He is 20 yrs old. Never a change, our Lord never ages beyond 20, 22, never and if you are attracted to such a Lord, you will be eternally young .Take it from me.

Hare Krishna

These things are meant to be understood and put into practice. That is why our all scriptures, and particularly Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, they are very intimately related in our day to day life. It is not that one hour we discuss and then forget about it, and next day we will see. No, nothing like that…24 hours a day, this knowledge remains with us. And that’s why it is known puranam amalam. And because it is amal, because it is such a wonderful puraan, then we, we people try to stick.

yad vaiṣṇavānāṁ priyaṁ, we are always the devotees. And because of Prabhupad’s mercy, we are very much attached to the scriptures. That is the reason why we are attached.

That Lord Macaulay wanted to destroy, that’s why he gave us the wrong translation in mythology. His mind was mythology, it is not our puraan and the fellow wrote a revealed report and one sentence I will tell you from the report. He wrote that “a shelf full of English literature that is Hamlet and Margaret etc. is much more valuable than the godown full of vedic literature”. Fool… did he know anything, what he is writing? Can one line be equal to that trash?

To be or not to be and this and that, I was amused too…my self was foolish person to study the Hamlet and Margaret for 6 years (laugh). Because, we have to appear for the BA examination. And then we all read Bhagavad Gita (laughing). And daily what Hamlet told and what Margaret said, we were trying to learn that trash. And because we accepted that Lord Macaulay as our Guru, so we need to obey . He told that your literature is completely useless, my literature is best. Alright, Sir, I will study your literature. And even now we are wasting our time. This is our ignorance. They try to destroy us and we help them to destroy us. (laugh) These was the really pitiable situations.

In the same way, they accused us, that you are worshipping statue. Murthy means statue. And this word is also in the Gaudiya math book. Statue...Krishna is statue. They write that Krishna is statue. Because they don’t know that murthy is the correct translation is deity. And there is vast difference between statue and deity. Deity is the transcendental form of the Lord according to the instructions given by the person who used to see the Lord, Naarad. According to the Pancaratra explanation, our murthikaars / our sculptors in Jaipur, they try to carve the murthis very nicely. And then we call them statues. I will give the example of statues. Here also there are so many statues. But in England, there is a parliament house, very famous. In front of parliament house, there is Churchill’s statue. Standing like this, with his hands….Since he is erected there, they have given him black colour, completely black. Because, all thousands of cars move around the square. And the fellow is always inhaling the fumes, so he is completely black. Since he is erected, I don’t think that anybody has offered him a sandwich (laugh). Not fair …that fellow is completely hungry (laugh)….and I don’t think that anybody looks at him also. May be his children, grandchildren might come there and admire it. That’s all…otherwise people ignore it. And then in rain, in storm, in cold, in heat, whatever it is, he should stand. And then he has friends… pigeons. They come , sit on his head, and put the shit. That is the decoration. Black head and white shit. This is statue worship.

For our Lord, we have palacial buildings. For our Lord, we cook 6 times a day in a special deity kitchen. And those who cook they fast…and they only eat after our Lord eats. This is the statue worship. Two times a day, we change the clothes. Thousand times we bow before the Lord…. whoever comes bows before the Lord. They are sitting on nice altar and decorated with the flowers.

Have they seen this crowd anytime…and they say we are worshipping statue. They are statues themselves.

They don’t understand…and they told us, and Oh, yes…yes…yes, we do worship statues. We are putting that word into our books. What will happen to our younger children, if they read “statues”… they will run away. It is our duty to give these young souls, a nice knowledge. If we don’t give these young ones the correct knowledge, who is going to tell them…?

We have seen India, we may visit India….but what is about these young ones. They will be completely destroyed. In order to secure their safe future, we have to follow these things very seriously. Put on Dhoti, put on kurta, nice tilak… very nice. Why do you wear trousers in Singapore, it is a punishment.  Really…here it is such a warm climate. How can you have black robes? (laugh) It is punishment, and you are coming for the discussion. We are all from India. Have nice kurta, pyjama or very loose clothes...that will help you. What are you doing in turn…Don’t do that…let these people see it that our elders can put on these very simple clothes. And this boy will remember that. And that, oh…I have been to some house, there was some strange orange fellows and they were shouting the spiritual names (laugh). He may not remember anything else , but he will definitely remember that... and there were few people, they were laughing and jumping here and there...wearing dhotis and kurtas...they will remember. Then they will see what our culture is. First make yourself happy by following these things very seriously and then you can very easily pass it on to the younger generation. They will not do by telling ...you must follow ... you must become the receiver. If I smoke and I tell him not to smoke, he will say he is smoking and telling me not to smoke ,so he will go to some corner and try it out . But if I stop and if we can tell them, then they will believe. So this is the secret of Vaishnavas….yad vaiṣṇavānāṁ priyaṁ.

And then we go to the second line, beautiful line: yasmin pāramahaṁsyam. Yasmin means in the scriptures ….pāramahaṁsyam , paramahamsa...hamsa, the quality of swan...swan is the only bird which can separate water and milk. If you give swan milk and water mixed, it can only sip milk and leave the water, and we are also swans ...we are paramahamsa...we are transcendental swans. And because we are transcendental swans, the material contamination and the spiritual activities are together with us. They are mixed in our life. And because we are swans, we only take the spiritual reality and leave the material. That is how, like a swan we behave. And what we have to do then? yasmin pāramahaṁsyam ekam amalaṁ. Only one jñāna is prescribed. Ekam amalaṁ jñānaṁ paraṁ gīyate, that jñānaṁ is very nicely glorified in this. And what is that eka jñāna? Hare Krishna Hare Krishna / Krishna  Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama / Rama Rama Hare Hare(repeats again). Let the world go to hell...let everybody go to hell, but whatever situation you are in, don't worry at all...na śocati na kāṅkṣati . What is that...?

Brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā / na śocati na kāṅkṣati / samaḥ sarveṣu bhūteṣu / mad-bhaktiṁ labhate parām.

If you want to obtain mad-bhakti, Krishna’s bhakti, then you have to become brahma-bhūtaḥ . Always chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna / Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama / Rama Rama Hare Hare , Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s gift. That's why we have called him mahā-vadānyāya, very merciful incarnation. He is merciful to all - young, old, thieves, dacoits, good, bad ,everybody can take this medicine: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna / Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama / Rama Rama Hare Hare, and this is ekam amalaṁ. Only Krishna, Īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ / sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ / anādir ādir govindaḥ / sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam . This is ekam amalaṁ jñānaṁ paraṁ gīyate. This one jñāna is described. And if we go to Bhagavad Gita, it is very nicely stated in the Bhagavad Gita :

vyavasāyātmikā buddhir / ekeha kuru-nandana. Krishna is very clear, vyavasāyātmikā buddhi means resolute determination is only one. Bahu-śākhā hy anantāś ca / buddhayo 'vyavasāyinām...very clear. Bahu-śākhā - if you leave this one resolute determination,  bahu-śākhā hy anantāś ca - there are so many branches there you move about, buddhayo - for our intellect, avyavasāyinām - because we are not resolute. So better come to Srimad Bhagavatham and cultivate this resolute determination. In any walk of life, in any situation, this should be your refuge. You cannot ignore this and do anything else, you ignore anything else and do this.  This is the message of Srimad Bhagavatham and this is ekam amalaṁ - completely spotless. Ekam - only one jñān, Lord is one without a sect. He is not Hindu god...he is not Muslim god…he is not Christian god. There is no sectarian for the Lord. You believe in any sect but come to the Lord and that is ekam amalaṁ jñānaṁ paraṁ gīyate. That jñān is very nicely sung in this puraan, and that's why it very dear to him. Then he says what is to be done.

In the next line he says tatra - in this puraan, tatra jñāna-virāga-bhakti - these are the three stages , jñānaṁ means knowledge, virāga means detachment and bhakti means devotional service. Unless there is knowledge, there won't be any detachment; and unless there is knowledge and detachment, there will not be any bhakti. I will give you the example. We know that ‘early to bed and early to rise’ is a way to be happy, healthy, wise and wealthy. In our childhood we were very much attracted with the wealthy world, because we were very poor(laugh)...and there were so many wealthy persons and they were moving on alright…nice clothes and this and that. So we thought that by hook or crook we have to be wealthy. So when we heard this thing, ‘early to bed and early to rise’ is a way to be happy, healthy, wealthy and wise so we thought wealthy, yes, this is the way if you want to be wealthy. So one day, we went to bed early...next day morning, woke up early and then I asked my father “where is wealthy?”(laugh) How it will become wealthy? But this is  cannot be achieved in one day. It is anudinam -  regularly you have to do, and then definitely you will get the result...and the same thing happen regarding this. We know , that we have the knowledge that ‘early to bed and early to rise’ is a way to be happy, healthy, wealthy and wise. But until and unless you try to detach from your bed how can you get up? You can't be in a bed and get up again, you can't do that. You have to detach yourself, jump out of the bed and then you get up. That is virāg - detachment. We have the knowledge that it is better that we go early to bed and get up early. But unless we leave the bed, we cannot do that...and after leaving the bed also we have to perform certain other activities. And until and unless this knowledge is put into practice, it will never give us the tendency to perform the devotional service...to perform the activities. So the knowledge about Krishna we have being Indians, then we have a bit of detachment also...we are very sinful in our life.. we don't have those inabilities, and because we are very detached from the material things, and because we have knowledge, it is very easy for us to perform bhakti. And this Chaitanya Mahaprabhu knew, and that's why he very nicely says in Chaitanya Caritamrta. What is it...?

Bhārata-bhūmite haila manuṣya-janma yāra / janma sārthaka kari' kara para-upakāra... something like that...that you make your own progress... spiritual progress and do para-upakāra - and then you try to help others, and this is what we have to do. And this can be done only in these three stages. First you must have jñān -  knowledge...you must have detachment and then bhakti. If you have these, then your activities become completely pure activities. They will not create any reactions and it is known as naiṣkarmyam...jñāna-virāga-bhakti-sahitaṁ naiṣkarmyam āviskṛtaṁ, and this is how we try to develop naiṣkarmyam.

Our activities don't produce any results. We have since the last one hour discussing about Srimad Bhagavatham. What is reaction? There is no reaction. On the contrary, we are very joyful because we understanding these things. So there is no reaction to this activity. If we can spiritualize our activities, they will not produce any reaction. As soon as we glide down to the fruitive activities, then there is a reaction. And this...this confidential knowledge, you have to understand. Somebody will tell me that we have our own house...we have our own responsibilities, how this can be done? It is very easily done. We have our own requirements. We have to do everything, but we have to go to Bhagavad Gita in order to understand this confidential cleverness in performing our activities. And Bhagavad Gita says:

yataḥ pravṛttir bhūtānāṁ / yena sarvam idaṁ tatam / sva-karmaṇā tam abhyarcya / siddhiṁ vindati mānavaḥ

...very nice verse from Bhagavad Gita. Yataḥ pravṛttir bhūtānāṁ - all our pravṛtti, all our activities are coming from the Lord. For example, you are working in the railways. The railways are moving because of the electricity. From where they get this electricity is coming? The source is the Lord. We are taking electricity. We may be manufacturing it in the power house. May be we are using the oil to manufacture the electricity or we may use the waterfall for hydroelectricity or something like that. All the power is coming from the Lord and that power is converted and now we are getting electricity. Whatever activities we are doing as a railway men we are just depending upon the Lord. All our activities listed are coming from the Lord and this knowledge we have to cultivate. If all the activities are coming from the Lord, yena sarvam idaṁ tatam, yena - by him, everywhere it is pervaded and that's why he is known all - pervading. And the word for all - pervading comes from the sanskrit root, sanskrit word 'vas’. ‘Vasa’ means to stay...who stays everywhere is known as vāsudev. The meaning of vāsudev...who stays. ‘Vas’ means to stay. Who stays everywhere is known as vāsudev, because he is all - pervading. Without him we cannot perform any activity. We get our material from him...our actions, we can perform because of his strength. So everything we are doing is by his mercy. And if we can remember this, then we can purify our activities. With whomever we deal in our activities, we think that he is Krishna...part and parcel of Krishna. So we are very honest with him. We don't take extra profit. We deal very honestly. And if you can carry on your activities very honestly, your expenses are met, your life becomes happy and at the same time your worldly activities will go on. We don't want to leave our activities. We have to continue in our own service…in our own activities. But sva-karmaṇā tam abhyarcya - by our own activities, we have to worship him and then siddhiṁ vindati mānavaḥ - and such living entity attains the perfection. This is the secret. How to do it, is everybody's own question and they have to find out their own situation. And somehow or the other we have to try to spiritualize our activities. And that is the meaning of the third line. And then he says how to spread

And he says there are again three stages : tat śṛṇvan - first hear, as much as possible. śṛṇvan, then su-paṭhan - with study...hear, then study(su-paṭhan) and vicāraṇa-paro - and think over it again and again...and then you will develop bhakti. And by bhakti, vimucyen naraḥ - you will be completely liberated. And that is the perfection of our life. That is why we study Srimad Bhagavatham. Is this bit clear?

Very nice verse.

Maharaj recites the shloka :

śrīmad-bhāgavataṁ purāṇam amalaṁ yad vaiṣṇavānāṁ priyaṁ
yasmin pāramahaṁsyam ekam amalaṁ jñānaṁ paraṁ gīyate
tatra jñāna-virāga-bhakti-sahitaṁ naiṣkarmyam āviskṛtaṁ
tac chṛṇvan su-paṭhan vicāraṇa-paro bhaktyā vimucyen naraḥ

very nice

With science, there is no comparison...there is no statue worship...there is nothing like that. Everything is very sublime and everything is very respectable. But even then we don't come to it...even then we don't come to it. What is the reason? Tell me...what is the reason? We are suffering from jaundice. Yes... because we are suffering from jaundice, the sugarcane tastes bitter. Sugarcane is sweet, but it is tasting bitter - because we are suffering from jaundice. And here the jaundice is avidyā. We are completely ignorant of the treasure which is in this book. And because we are ignorant, we don't touch it. But he says adharat anudinam

With respect anudinam - regularly we should do. Everyday mangal aarti...everyday 4 o’clock, 5 o’clock if whatever time you do.

Everyday...don't just find out some excuse. Your mind will always find out some suitable excuse. The first thing it will tell is that oh! These sanyasis don't have anything to do, so it is their duty to get up at 4 o’clock. You are very important. You become tired, you look to your wife, You maintain the children, maintain the house. Such an important person. How can you get up at 4?

And you completely stop doing.  You can do it very well. But your mind is very clever to take you away from these activities. And it will give you a very suitable argument like this. And we unknowingly become the victim of our own mind. We become the enemy of ourself. You should not be under the control of the mind. You have to order the mind that foolish, get up. And whatever you tell, you don't worry. You just tell. And then your mind will cooperate. And the best thing to tell is that do you want to go again and again and again in janma and mṛtyu...birth and death? Again you have to suffer in your birth? Again and again you have to suffer in your death...again and again you have to suffer in your old life... again and again you have to suffer in your sickness… janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi...and not once, but eight million and four hundred thousand times, eighty four lakhs.

You please think of the danger. The danger is very great. If you don't do this you are completely destroyed. Please don't depend on anybody or anything. Draupadi had five husbands, but even then Draupadi had to die alone. If we go to Badrinarayan, on the way to Badrinarayan, there is that place where that poor lady was left alone and everybody went away...and died separately again. So this is how we have to die on our strength. Nobody will help. Nobody...whether family or children or parents or wives or whatever it is. Nobody can help. You have to go on your own. Srila Prabhupad gives a very nice example in order to explain this point. He says that on the airport, there are so many aeroplanes... hundreds of aeroplanes are there on the tarmac. So till they are on the ground, now, the engineers go from one aircraft to the other aircraft, then again third, fourth, fifth and in this way they can move about in all the aircrafts, till they are on the ground. But as soon as the aircraft is airborne, means in that aircraft if anything goes wrong, then he has to depend upon his own strength. If there is a mechanic inside, then he can only help, nobody helps, because it is already airborne. The same condition is ours. Till we are in the family, we may serve each other, we may try to help them, seldom we do that, we are expected to do that(laugh). So we may help each other, till we are in the family. But as soon as we go airborne, and we are going airborne, is there anybody who is not going to go airborne? Is there anybody who need not go? Not there. Definitely we have to go. There is no doubt about it. All our activities we are doing just to keep that appointment...last appointment. You cannot miss that appointment. So we have to go and then, at that time, you have to depend upon your own capacity... whatever you have done. And that's why daily you have to do...daily, and daily you have to increase your strength...your spiritual strength. And may be your death will be very happy death. However you may not get another material body, you will have a spiritual body. And eternally you can reside in Goloka Vrindavan at the lotus feet of Krishna...maybe. This is our destination and we have planned very seriously to attain this. And that's why, Mukund Mala, you know...very nice verse he said. Yesterday we saw that verse. What is it...?

kṛṣṇa tvadīya-pada-pańkaja-pañjarāntam / adyaiva me viśatu mānasa-rāja-haḿsah / prāṇa-prayāṇa-samaye kapha-vāta-pittaih / kaṇṭhāvarodhana-vidhau smaraṇaḿ kutas te.

Very nicely… He says please give me the place at your lotus feet till I am sufficiently strong to do it, because prāṇa-prayāṇa-samaye - at the time of death, kapha-vāta-pittaih - by cough, by mucus, vāt - air, and my throat will be completely choked kaṇṭhāvarodhana-vidhau smaraṇaḿ kutas te - and when can I smaran...when can I remember you? I can't remember you at the time of death. So please till I'm able to remember, I'm trying hard to remember you and please pick me up from this dirty place. This is how in Mukund Mala, the devotee is praying. And very nicely, devotee is asking three things from the Lord. In the Vedas, that verse is very nicely described.

That devotees always ask these three things. The first thing is anAyAsena maraNam vinA dainyena jIvanam / dehi me kRpayA krishna tvayi bhaktim achanchalAm.    anAyAsena maraNam...we ask Krishna for this favour...that please do favour on us. And we want anAyAsena maraNam...anAyAsena maraNam means very easy death. We are sitting here. Just now he was alive and dropped there. No becoming invalid and becoming a burden to the family or in the hospital or some where.

If the body doesn't leave, the soul doesn't leave the body. No, that way we don't want - anAyAsena maranam. And then give us vinA dainyena jIvanam - our life should not depend upon anybody else. Till we are alive we should be fully capable of doing our own activities. We should be financially self - sufficient. We should not spread our palm to anybody.  And this type of life - vinA dainyena jIvanam and the last thing he is asking is dehi me kRpayA krishna tvayi bhaktim achanchalAm - give me your achanchalAm bhakti - unflinching faith.  Give me that. Otherwise we will be completely entangled in this material world. Till death, we don't leave. Not only till death , after death also.

Very very nice story in Mahabharata. There was...Haribol

Devotee : Haribol

There was one….there was one person and he was about forty years of age. So when you approach forty, forty - five, slowly you see the white hair.

Then we try to press it (laugh). And then you can't press. So then again he is doing like this, because he doesn't want white hair.  Because that is the notice and we don't want to notice. Slowly it is coming. You can't avoid. But then , you want to hide it.

White hair cannot become black. So he thought (voice couldn't be heard...empty tape). No recording after this
